Dance Workshop and Performance

  • Visiting instructor works with participating students to explore, learn and create a short set of contemporary dance routines.
  • Using the tools and strategies they have learned through the workshop, students are guided to create their own contemporary dance choreography.
  • Students customize a 'dance like no one is watching' tshirt - this is their Flashmob 'costume' to keep.
  • The day culminates with participants and instructor giving a Flashmob performance for other students/teachers.

    *What is a Flashmob?

  • Flashmob is an impromptu gathering/performance that can take place anywhere, anytime.
  • It springs up amongst an unsuspecting group of people.
  • It is a fun, creative and unexpected way to galvanize a a group of people.
  • Flashmob Dance appeals to a wide range of students - those who consider themselves dance lovers and those who would never dream of taking a dance class! It's all about having fun while learning and moving!

    How does dance like no one is watching: Flashmob happen at our school?

  • Workshop portion will take place in your gym or studio (2 hours)
  • Flashmob performance can happen anywhere. (followed by Q & A - approx. 30 min.)
  • Potential performance locations include gym, library,cafeteria, schoolyard, common area, hallways, classroom or even the staffroom
  • We will work with your school's Arts Co-ordinator to determine a great location for your school's very own Flashmob!
  • Flashmob participants are spread throughout a larger group of unsuspecting students and perform their newly created dances under the guidance of the visiting artist.

     

     

    How much does it cost to bring dance like no one is watching: Flashmob to our school?

  • 1 class for 1 day - $350
  • 2 classes for 1 day each - $ 600
  • 3 classes for 1 day each - $ 850
  • 4 classes for 1 day each - $1050
  • 5 classes for 1 day each - $1200

    • + HST

    Assorted details:
  • School will provide speakers and a microphone.
  • Class size is limited to 30.
  • Additional fee for larger classes.
  • $10 fee per child for dance like no one is watching tshirt

    Who is Meagan O'Shea and Stand Up Dance?

    Stand Up Dance, is a Toronto-based modern dance company founded by Artistic Director Meagan O'Shea. Stand Up Dance creates innovative physical performances; blurring the line between dance and theatre, performance and action. Examining ideas from unexpected angles and engaging audiences on multiple levels, Stand Up Dance produces exceptional and compelling performance experiences.

    Meagan's spring 2011 performance entitled 'The Atomic Weight of Happiness' was recently nominated for two Dora Awards... (32nd annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, celebrating extraordinary Toronto talent in the performing arts).

    Meagan O'Shea is a professional modern dancer and choreographer. She has worked with thousands of students through the Ontario Arts Council's 'Artists in Education' program; creating and delivering performances and week-long dance workshops in schools. She is also the recipient of numerous grants from various Canadian granting bodies.

  • dance like no one is watching has reached over 30,000 audience members and included more than 200 dancers since 2007 in public spaces and private concerts.
  • The teaching component of our dance improvisation scores and choreographed dance routines exceeds the dance curriculum component
